Pancakes fly and canoes flip at Lynn’s fourth annual Founders Day
Published Oct. 14, 2008
Lynn University students, staff and faculty will gather on Thursday, Oct. 30 to celebrate the university’s founding – and founders – at the fourth annual Founders Day. The day-long celebration, beginning at 8:30 a.m., will feature a variety of events including flying pancakes with President Kevin Ross, fast (and often flipping) canoes and a festive family picnic.
Chris Cakes, a nationally recognized flapjack flipping company recently featured on the Food Network show, “Unwrapped,” will kick off Founders Day activities at 8:30 a.m. in the Perper Plaza on campus. Chris Cakes, who served pancakes to USA president hopeful, Barack Obama, will toss pancakes to Lynn’s president, Kevin Ross, during an entertaining and hearty pancake breakfast.
At 9:15 a.m., Ross will officially open the day with a welcome address. Other morning highlights include live music and a historical photo display commemorating the campus’s evolution from Marymount College to College of Boca Raton to today.
The festivities will continue at noon with the third annual Founders Day canoe challenge on the lake south of the Schmidt Building on Military Trail. Last year, almost 30 teams of three, including President Ross and two of his cabinet members, raced around the lake competing for the fastest time. The winning teams will be announced at the family picnic and festival following the race.
The Founders Day family picnic and festival from 4:30 – 7 p.m. will be held on the Schmidt Building lawn. Wearing blue and white, the university welcomes students, staff, faculty and their families for an evening that will include a barbeque dinner and activities like inflatable games, face painting and a live band.
