Lynn Fulbright Scholar returns from Poland

Grodzki spent six months at Tischner European University completing her fellowship

Erika Grodzki, associate professor of public relations and Erika Grodzki, B.A., M.A., Ph.D. advertising in Lynn University’s Eugene M. and Christine E. Lynn College of International Communication at Lynn University, recently returned from Poland after completing her fellowship through the prestigious U.S. Fulbright Scholar Program grant.

Grodzki spent six months as a faculty member at Tischner European University in Krakow, Poland lecturing on media relations, intercultural communication and international advertising. She also organized the first annual international conference on language, culture and politics while abroad.

While in Krakow, the rich scholarly and international environment created a perfect opportunity for me to continue my research that will lead to future publications on cultural differences, lacuna theory and international advertising.”

Grodzki has researched and published on cultural differences and specifically on Lacuna Theory, which she applies to advertising research. Lacuna is a “theory that attempts to point out and label cultural differences as they arise,” she says. The term “lacuna” refers to a gap or a missing piece of information. While in Krakow, Grodzki arranged a conference on the topic with new colleagues from Tischner and former colleagues from Germany, where she first studied the theory as a doctoral student.
