Fall wine and cooking series' announced

Participants learn easy to prepare Italian dishes and the fundamentals of wine at two separate series

The College of Hospitality Management is offering two new series for fall 2009: a 10-week cooking class series and a six-week wine series.

10-week cooking class series

The cooking class series, “La Bella Cucina Italiana,” led by Chef Angelo Morinelli will teach participants how to prepare easy to follow recipes from different regions of Italy, while sharing the history behind the recipe and culture, and enjoying the food and wine pairing.

The 10-week series begins Wednesday, Oct. 7 and ends Dec. 16, and is held in the Culinary Lab in the de Hoernle International Center. You have the option of choosing the lunch series (10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.) or the dinner series (6:30-8:30 p.m.). Price per class is $49 (lunch); $59 (dinner); or purchase the series of 10 classes: $450 (lunch); $530 (dinner).

6-week wine series

The wine series is suitable for the novice or for those who want a review of the basics. Led by Lynn’s Sommelier-in-Residence Charlie Arturaola, considered one of the nation's “top palates,” participants will learn about the fundamentals of wine. Classes are held every Wednesday for six weeks starting Oct. 14, 6-7 p.m., in the Henke Wing. Tickets for the wine series are available to the general public for $179.

The wine series schedule includes:
  • Oct. 14 - History, Viticulture (Tasting: Riesling, Pinot Noir)
  • Oct. 21 - Grapes, Bottles, Glassware (Tasting: Pinot Grigio, Sangiovese)
  • Oct. 28 - Opening a Bottle of Wine (Tasting: Gewurztraminer, Malbec)
  • Nov. 4 - North America Wine Regions (Tasting: Chardonnay, Tempranillo)
  • Nov. 11 - Bordeaux (Tasting: Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon)
  • Nov. 18 - Ordering Wine at a Restaurant (Tasting: Port, Champagne)
